Everyone should know better than to take public transportation during a zombie invasion, but many of us use public transport every day, and we need to know what to do if the zombie apocalypse begins while we’re riding the subway, bus, or train. I take the metro to work, and I’ve often thought about what I would do if zombies attacked while I was trapped in a crowded metro car. Here are a few things you can do to ensure you’ll be prepared if you get caught on public transportation during a zombie invasion:
One: Always take the seat on the aisle. If there are no aisle seats available, it’s better to stand. You don’t want to get trapped in the window seat, especially if the person sitting next to you is infected. It’s important to always have an escape route.
Two: It’s OK to read a book (especially if it’s a zombie book) or listen to music while you’re on the bus, but you should check your surroundings every few minutes. Too many people get completely engrossed in their electronics during their commutes, and this rookie mistake can cost them their lives.
Three: Make sure you’re close to a door at all times. I know it seems unsafe to be near a door if there’s a hoard of zombies waiting for you on the other side, but you don’t want to get trapped in the middle of a subway car if zombies board the train. That would guarantee your demise. If you’re close to a door, you’ll at least have a chance to make it out alive.
Four: Steer clear of anyone who shows signs of the zombie virus (bite marks, feverish sweats, greenish skin tone, etc.). Keep an eye on any sickly-looking people, because they could turn into zombies while you’re flipping the page of your zombie book or scrolling through your iTunes playlist. If you see someone who exhibits zombie-like symptoms, move to another train car or get on a different bus.
It’s a good policy to always be aware of your surroundings. Whether you’re riding the bus to work, or hopping a train to the office, it’s important to keep in mind that zombies could attack at any moment. If you use these precautionary survival tips, your chances of living through a zombie attack while on public transportation will greatly increase.
