I love soda pop! Since 2013 soft drinks have been America’s number one beverage. 6 in 10 children, and 5 in 10 adults consume soft drinks daily. The soft drink industry makes $75 billion a year. Part of this is the 582 cans that drink each year by each consumer. This accounts for 200 billion cans a year being made and bought. That’s a lot of cans lying around you can use for your survival benefit. Survival Use: Empty Aluminum Soda Pop Cans.
Much like toilet paper rolls, you can convert this to makeshift seedlings pots for your garden. Seedlings are vegetables that need to adapt to the soil before planting. Some vegetables, like beets, peas, and pumpkins need this little extra push to begin growing. In a world without grocery stores gardening will become your dominant food supply. The first thing to do is to cut the can in half. Next, you punctured a couple of holes at the bottom of the can to allow water to flow out. Lastly, fill with soil and plant your little green babies.
This is something you’ve seen a few times in The Walking Dead. Our brave hero is walking through the forest when they trip over a string and you hear a rattling sound, then walkers appear trying to eat them. Not only is this method super easy, but it’s super cheap to make. What you do is poke holes on opposite sides on the top of the can. Then, string them together leaving a couple of inches of space between them. Finally, you want to add a couple of pebbles in them to make a strong rattling noise. Don’t add too much though because then they won’t rattle as loud. You want to tie it around the perimeter so they cans are not touching the ground, but not so high that would-be invaders see it.
In any doomsday scenario, the first thing to go is the power grid. Now, this project is a little tricky and should not be attempted by very small children. First, you want to cut off the top of the can to allow smoke to escape. Then, you want to cut silts from top to bottom every half inch on the can. Finally, you want to gently push down on the can to spread apart the slits. Add a tea light through the top and presto you got yourself a little lantern. Use the tabs to string a couple together for more light.
Pop Tab Lures
During the apocalypse, you need to learn that all parts of an item need to be used, and the pop tab is no exception. What a better way to repurpose the tab to help you get food. You know you’ll need to eat something while you wait for your seedlings to grow. Plus, fishing has been known to reduce stress levels in people by giving you a chance to relax and breathe in some fresh air. To make a pop tab lure is much easier then you think. What you do is take a multi-tool and remove a small piece on the side of the tab as shown in the provided picture.
Pop Tab Chainmail
This project is going to take over a thousand pop tabs, but in the end, it will give you some decent armor to protect you from zombie bites, and something is better than nothing. First, you will need to bend down the collar end of each tab. Second, make a small snip at the tops of the tabs. Try to do it on the same spot to make things consistent. Third, bend them a little in the middle. Lastly, start linking them together cut side to the noncut side in a weaving pattern.
