This article contains spoilers! Readers’ discretion is advised! Last Nights Look At The Flowers Takes A Break From The Action:

We begin tonight’s episode with a flashback to Negan in his cell. Carol enters to Negan’s surprise. He assumed it was Father Gabriel coming to get him for his execution for killing those kids earlier in the season. Carol tells Negan that everyone will forgive him if he brings her Alpha’s head. Shortly after the deal is made, we return to the present with Carol putting Alpha’s head on a pike. Negan demands Carol hold up her end of the deal. Carol is upset that Negan took longer than planned to take out Alpha. Negan becomes hostile, claiming things like this take time. He demands again that Carol fulfills her end of the bargain. She refuses and walks off.

We return after the opening theme song to Jerry reassuring King Ezekiel that all the kids are fine. King Ezekiel is unfortunately upset about the fall of Hilltop. Yumiko arrives with Magna and Eugene. Jerry is overjoyed to see Magna alive. Eugene goes over to check on Rosita. Rosita tells him that now is the time to break the news about Stephanie, to which he does. He is quickly met with harsh questioning. Everyone is upset at him for withholding this knowledge from them. Eugene breaks down and insists on meeting for the good of the new world. Yumiko encourages Magna to go with him. Magna said she is done with adventures, and that Yumiko should go instead. King Ezekiel decides to go as well for personal reasons. Before leaving, he hands the Kingdom over to Jerry.

Meanwhile, Beta, with a couple of Whisperers, find Alpha’s head on the pike. One of the Whisperers said now that Alpha is dead Beta is their new leader. Beta scolds him for saying such things in the presence of Alpha. He orders him to remove his mask. He then shoves his head towards Alpha to which she begins feasting on his ear. When she’s done, Beta tenderly removes her head, cradling it in his arms.

Negan returns to the cabin. He is shocked to find Lydia gone. He is swiftly attacked by Daryl, demanding to know where Alpha is. Negan tells him that she is dead, but Daryl doesn’t believe him. He pulls out her mask as proof. Negan tells him all about the deal he made with Carol. Daryl said he needs more to believe him.

Beta has Alpha’s head in a potato sack. The Whisperer she bit isn’t doing so great. He starts to cough, getting the attention of a passing walker. The walker starts coming towards them. The Whisperer goes it to kill it but is killed by Beta in the process. While the walker eats the Whisperer, Beta goes into a nearby bar. While exploring the bar, he finds a poster of who he was in the before times. He becomes upset and smashes a guitar.

In the woods, Carol is hallucinating Alpha. Alph is taunting Carol with her feelings of guilt over the damage she caused to everyone she loves in this quest to kill her.

On the road, Eugene tells Yumiko a story about his mother involving chocolate bunnies. Along the way, they find two walkers in very well-made cages. Yumiko thinks they should investigate it before continuing. They split up. King Ezekiel hops off his horse to kill walkers, but becomes weak and starts coughing.

Negan is taking Daryl to the pike. Negan comments on how he shouldn’t be mad at him because Carol didn’t include in on the plan. Daryl said he is more upset over Negan putting the kids of Hilltop endanger at the battle.

Beta is listening to a record he made when he was a singer. He has it up so loud that it’s attaching every nearby walker. He watches the horde gather below, peeling off the broken chunk of his mask.

Carol is still having her emotional meltdown. She goes into a garage to seek shelter for the night. Alpha is still taunting over all the mistakes she has made in her life. She trying to pull down something to reinforce the shelter when the ceiling collapses on her.

Negan and Daryl arrive at the pike that use to have alpha’s head on it. Negan swears to Daryl that it was there, but he doesn’t believe him. Negan insists they wait for Carol because she’ll explain it to him. Daryl isn’t waiting. Negan says if he was working with Alpha, then why did he put Lydia in a safe place. Before Daryl could answer, three Whisperers emerge from the shadow. They said since Negan killed Alpha, that makes him the new leader. They overpower Daryl, taking him in as a prisoner. Negan orders one of the Whisperers’ to give him their gun. He then demands Daryl kneel, which he does reluctantly. Negan points the gun at him. But, instead of shooting him, they team up and kill the Whisperers.

Back on the road, Eugene and the others have pitched camp for the night. King Ezekiel is on guard duty. Suddenly his horse collapses in pain. King Ezekiel rushes over to see what is wrong with him. The horse was bitten. King Ezekiel tries his best to calm the horse down. Once calm, he kills it with a swift stab to the head. Shortly after, King Ezekiel asks Yumiko that if he ever becomes weak and sickly to leave him behind. Yumiko refuses, saying the world needs him.

Carol is still trapped under the fallen roof. Alpha calls out to a nearby walker making his way towards the garage. Alpha is still continuously taunting her about her mistakes and burned bridges. Carol finally realizes that she is better then what Alpha was telling her. This gives her the strength to free herself from under the rubble. She kills the walker, then passes out from the pain in her arm.

Daryl and Negan are still waiting for Carol at the pike. Negan tells Daryl he is certain Carol isn’t coming back. Negan tells him that he lost everything the day the Saviors fell. He said it felt good to finally be out of that cell, and free in the world. He apologizes for putting people, including children, in harm’s way at the battle at Hilltop. Daryl decides to give up waiting. He and Negan return to Alexandria. Carol arrives shortly after them.

At the bar, Beta is reading a note he found earlier on the table. He then takes Alpha’s head out of the bag. He thanks her for helping him see the true light at the end of the tunnel. After his heartfelt goodbye, he kills the head. Beta emerges from the bar with his new horde. He fixed his mask with Alpha’s skin.
