When fighting zombies it’s safe to assume that most people know they need weapons. I’m sure that most of our readers have already come a long way in preparing themselves and have a formidable stack of supplies. So this will not be a full gear list, but just a few items that are often overlooked but will save your life.
You’d be surprised how many people don’t pack gloves! These are essential for your survival. You’ll be using your hands all the time for touching weapons, looting corpses, climbing on things and probably fighting zombies too. The last thing you want is some zombie goo in a paper cut. Or that paper cut in the first place! All joking aside, you really don’t want any kind of cuts or wounds in a survival situation.
Eye protection (glasses/goggles)
Again with the zombie goo… If you’re planning on bashing skulls, there might be some spatter here and there. Make sure it doesn’t get in your eyes! This also goes for debris, shrapnel or even too much sunlight. Being blind must be horrible, but being blind in the zombie apocalypse with an infected eye must be the worst ever.
As I was looking for images of eye-pro, I found these awesome testimonies when eye-pro truly helped people!
This should probably be a scarf of some sort, probably elastic but easy to remove and wash. Keep this in front of your mouth to keep the zombie blood out. Or any insect that might have just been on a zombie or corpse, flying in all the wrong places. Though it would mostly be for the zombie goo and blood. When bashing a skull you’re probably screaming like a viking, so your mouth will be open to all sorts of blood spatter. That’s not a good thing! Even if you don’t get infected, you’ll have a bad taste in your mouth and… Well ewwww you have zombie goo, guts and blood in your mouth now.
Lighters and flammable liquid
This one might sound strange, but it could really save your life! What you have here is basically a small arson kit, that you can use for diversions. Of course you could start fires to keep you warm and you will use it for that too. However, having easy fire starters with you can come in handy in a variety of situations. You can create forest fires to kill hordes of zombies for example. Or set fire to create a diversion. Or even better, set fire to your enemies’ settlements so they get overrun! I have a cool idea for a burning zombie trap, I think that will be a nice piece for tomorrow.
Thank you for reading and if you have suggestions for must have items, let me know! Or write your own article. It’s almost 9 PM here now, so I’m signing off to go watch some Parks and Rec and go to bed. PS: Ron Swanson vs Zombies maybe a Kickstarter idea? :p
